Gun Control Back With a Vengeance

OK - we're faced with a choice. We can have this, via House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Good Morning America last Tuesday:

"The ball is in Congress's court to craft a compromise in reinstating regulations on assault weapons." Congress will work to find some middle ground between the previous ban, which expired in 2004, and the precedent laid by the Supreme Court in a ruling enumerating more concrete gunowners' rights last term. "We have to find some level of compromise," Pelosi said, citing 53 victims of gun violence nationwide in less than a month. "And we have to rid the debate of the misconceptions people have about what gun safety means."

(We all know what "gun safety" means to the left. It translates into "if we get their guns we'll be safe as we enslave them")

"We want them registered, and we don't want them crossing state lines..."

OR - we can have this, with thanks to Jesus Christ, the Founding Fathers and the supreme law of the land:

"When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace."

--Jesus Christ, Luke 11:21

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself! They are the American people's Libertys Teeth and keystone under Independence. From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security, and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere, restrains evil interference -- they deserve a place of honor with all that's good!"

-- George Washington - January 1790

This disarmament development comes on the heels of the G-20 meeting in which American financial sovereignty was all but eliminated and replaced with an international socialist regulatory regime. The decisive moment draws ever nearer - will we acquiesce to life as slaves or will we find the backbone to rise and fight to restore Liberty?

In the Mood (to Quote...)

So here's another:

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined". -- Patrick Henry

Obama Just HAS to be Meddling With Someone's Guns...

...so why not commercial pilots?

As I wrote in a newsletter shortly after 9/11 "the solution to air piracy is simple - arm the pilots! They're the ideal group to be carrying guns. Many are ex-military and are already acquainted with weapons. Many more are recreational shooters. They're all above average in intelligence, eye to hand co-ordination, motivation and learning ability. In other words, they're a shooting instructor's dream class! Let's arm them, train them and then show them shooting well on TV..."

Well, the government did go on - grudgingly - to allow armed pilots, but not without forcing them through inane bureaucratic hurdles. Now, the tyrant Obama has diverted funds away from this program, and that money will instead be used to harass the very same pilots being disarmed.

Read it and weep.

I Need Permission to Have Rights?

Imagine telling a journalist that they had to undergo a background check before writing an article, and that they had to pass another one for each new article they write.

Imagine telling a journalist that they couldn't carry a camera or recorder without a permit.

Imagine telling a journalist that nobody can buy a newspaper without first passing a background check, and that on a busy weekend it may take hours to perform the check. The police will be dispatched to arrest the buyer if he has an unpaid ticket. Regardless of the outcome of today's check, a new check will be required if anyone wants to buy the paper again tomorrow.

Absurd, you say?

Gun owners know these sensations well, and applying these restrictions to any other right illustrates the abuse we have suffered at the hands of those who wish us disarmed. We've backed up a little too far, if you ask me.

Morally, there is no reason anyone should be forced to seek permission to carry a gun. The right to self-defense is merely an extension of the right to life itself, and in no way is our right to life up for bureaucratic review. In fact, bureaucratic review of our God-given rights is precisely what the Second Amendment empowers us to resist.

Surprise, Surprise!

Benito's pet anti-gun totalitarian Attorney General Eric Holder has weighed in on the administration's plans for renewing the "assault weapons ban"...

ABC News Story

"The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today."

And the NRA types thought this wouldn't happen in the Obamanation.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border."

I guess they really want to help disarm Mexico at the expense of American rights. Sure. This, since Mexico's been such a good neighbor over the years??? Right. What they need in Mexico is armed rebellion. They need to throw the corrupt bastards out and start over.

I have a novel idea - let's close the border! That will solve all of Mexico's alleged "problems" with us, not to mention our problems with them. If I were president (heh!) I'd take care of that problem by this weekend, for free, using citizen volunteers (a militia - fancy that!) with their assault rifles in hand, to do the job.

Particularly telling is Wayne LaPierre's tepid response to Holder's announcement: "A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country," LaPierre said. "I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it's clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution."

He thinks. We need to identify the people who know, and get behind them! Here's a start:

Another Back Door Assault on 2nd Amendment

Kudos to the JammieWearingFool for picking up on this threat against the Tiahrt Amendment, looming in the soon-to-be released Obama budget proposal.

JammieWearingFool

One truly wonders if the Dems are in any way capable of learning from their own history. It was just one Clinton ago that they gave birth to the constitutional militia movement with their machinations to disarm patriotic Americans and socialize medicine. Over these very issues they got themselves deservedly thrashed in the 1994 congressional midterms. Now we get Eric Holder and this kind of mischief. The next congressional midterms offer little hope as far as gun rights are concerned, so one wonders where people will focus their ire this time around. Messing with people's Liberty is a dangerous thing, particularly when the ballot box provides no real hope.

Armed people who basically want to be left alone seem like good citizens and ideal neighbors to me, but then I don't run a meddling nanny state so what could I possibly know about good neighbors?

Just Another Day at the Office...

Three trillion dollars of deficit spending in one day.

That's:

- $800 billion for the new stimulus bill.

- A $1 trillion commitment by the Fed to "make loans more widely available to consumers" which actually means the taxpayer will be taking over the liability for many past bankster screwups.

- $350 billion from the first pork bill goes from uncommitted to committed, thanks to Geithner, who refreshingly promised that thing they call transparency (which events suggest is actually spelled "opacity"). Right. Anyway, he also said they'd soon be back for more, which was one of very few promises I found believable.

Add in a few et ceteras and that's three trillion. (Here a billion, there a billion, everywhere a billion billion. Old MacDonald's house of cards - EIEIO.)

Update: After a pitched battle in which the Senate dropped some tax breaks for the peasants but clung bitterly to their spending and power grabs, the price of the stimulus bill dropped precipitously to $789,000,000,000. Nanny Pelosi said "We have come to an agreement with the Senate as to how we will go forward and I think the people are happy about that." No kidding. She really said that. They came to an agreement - with themselves - on plundering the nation. How congenial. She thinks we'll be happy about this if she merely suggests the idea? Delusional twit...

So - what does the stimulus bill really stimulate? In the guise of job creation, there are some huge payouts to the left's power base - as in bankers, unions and entitlement recipients. Taken as the immediate economic stimulus it claims to be, this legislation is a joke. Much of this spending isn't even scheduled for this year! Scratch the surface, and you'll find that what's really stimulated is federal power.

This is no accident. A new federal health care gestapo is birthed in this bill, with $20 billion worth of gleeful plans to hold every last detail of your medical history in government hands, and with further plans for those same hands to grab decision making from our doctors. Rahm Emanuel said "You never want a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it's an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before." Like fascism, for example. Federal bureaucrats will soon have the power to nag your doctor - real time as he treats you - dictating which treatments are acceptable and which are not. Heavy on the "are not."

This is a coup, folks! They just imposed socialized medicine, without the inconvenience of representation or debate.

Back in the Clinton years (come to think of it, he was the original stimulus Bill...) it became apparent that the push for socialized medicine had but one true goal - the rationing of costly medical care - particularly for the elderly. That's rationing with the kind of "capital R" that's written in blood by Federal teeth. If you think they're not serious, consider that nothing short of rationing will mitigate the looming burden of the baby boom generation on Social Security and Medicare.

Great. Social Security. Paternity tests on this program reveal a grinning Ponzi. Any junior actuary could have told you - in 1960 - that this whole SS/Medicare thing would inevitably collapse. These programs have been cash cows since their inception, though, and they still are. Thus, now is not a particularly convenient time to admit that the whole mess is mathematically guaranteed to fail as the baby boom generation attempts to retire. (Attempted retirement - now there's a crime for this new millennium!) No, the bad news on retirement will have to wait, for as long as they can distract us from thinking about it.

Meantime, in my crystal ball, a not-too-distant future appears - the phone rings and when it's answered a disinterested bureaucrat says: "So, Granny Smith - our computer model has reviewed your case and you're just not paying enough taxes to justify your continued existence. And then there's the matter of your carbon footprint. So, we're sorry, but no more dialysis for you..." (I could be way off base about such a phone call, as they may just send the message to her implanted chip. Saves on bureaucrats that way!)

Today's vocabulary word is "geriatricide"

No wonder they want us disarmed...
