Let's be honest: you'll never win the lottery.
On the other hand, the chances are pretty good that you'll slave away at some miserable job the rest of your life. That's because you were in all likelihood born into the wrong social class. Let's face it — you're a member of the working caste. Sorry!
As a result, you don't have the education, upbringing, connections, manners, appearance, and good taste to ever become one of us. In fact, you'd probably need a book the size of the yellow pages to list all the unfair advantages we have over you. That's why we're so relieved to know that you still continue to believe all those silly fairy tales about "justice" and "equal opportunity" in America.
Of course, in a hierarchical social system like ours, there's never been much room at the top to begin with. Besides, it's already occupied by us — and we like it up here so much that we intend to keep it that way. But at least there's usually someone lower in the social hierarchy you can feel superior to and kick in the teeth once in a while. Even a lowly dishwasher can easily find some poor slob further down in the pecking order to sneer and spit at. So be thankful for migrant workers, prostitutes, and homeless street people.
Always remember that if everyone like you were economically secure and socially privileged like us, there would be no one left to fill all those boring, dangerous, low-paid jobs in our economy. And no one to fight our wars for us, or blindly follow orders in our totalitarian corporate institutions. And certainly no one to meekly go to their grave without having lived a full and creative life. So please, keep up the good work!
You also probably don't have the same greedy, compulsive drive to possess wealth, power, and prestige that we have. And even though you may sincerely want to change the way you live, you're also afraid of the very change you desire, thus keeping you and others like you in a nervous state of limbo. So you go through life mechanically playing your assigned social role, terrified what others would think should you ever dare to "break out of the mold."
Naturally, we try to play you off against each other whenever it suits our purposes: high-waged workers against low-waged, unionized against non-unionized, Black against White, male against female, American workers against Japanese against Mexican against.... We continually push your wages down by invoking "foreign competition," "the law of supply and demand," "national security," or "the bloated federal deficit." We throw you on the unemployed scrap heap if you step out of line or jeopardize our profits. And to give you an occasional break from the monotony of our daily economic blackmail, we allow you to participate in our stage-managed electoral shell games, better known to you ordinary folks as "elections." Happily, you haven't a clue as to what's really happening — instead, you blame "Aliens," "Tree-hugging Environmentalists," "Niggers," "Jews," Welfare Queens," and countless others for your troubled situation.
We're also very pleased that many of you still embrace the "work ethic," even though most jobs in our economy degrade the environment, undermine your physical and emotional health, and basically suck your one and only life right out of you. We obviously don't know much about work, but we're sure glad you do!
Of course, life could be different. Society could be intelligently organized to meet the real needs of the general population. You and others like you could collectively fight to free yourselves from our domination. But you don't know that. In fact, you can't even imagine that another way of life is possible. And that's probably the greatest, most significant achievement of our system — robbing you of your imagination, your creativity, your ability to think and act for yourself.
So we'd truly like to thank you from the bottom of our heartless hearts. Your loyal sacrifice makes possible our corrupt luxury; your work makes our system work. Thanks so much for "knowing your place" — without even knowing it!
FPG's note: Full credit, and my thanks go out to the folks at Scroogle Scraper for this humorous bit. It's one of a number of fun things that appear on their home page. For those who aren't familiar with Scroogle, they allow you to search Google without having your searches permanently recorded in Google's archives. I highly recommend them.

Picking the Meat From the Bones
Contempt, greed from police union boss:
Roughing us up on the streets is no longer enough

They're also quite likely still lacking the one investigative tool the agency needs most - a full length mirror!

Vocabulary Word of the Day...
"Nomenklatura"
The average Federal Government employee pulls (and I chose that term deliberately) in $70,000 per year. The average private sector employee sweats (another deliberate choice) out $40,000 per year.
"Nomenklatura" - just so you know what they're called.

Toyota Trouble
Anyone who's an automotive enthusiast (and who wasn't born last night - me, on both counts!) recalls the ruckus over "unintended acceleration" in Audi cars a while back. Those accusations were eventually discredited and Audi was cleared, but not before the company took a tremendous hit in sales and prestige. The current situation with Toyota Motor Company and the gas pedal recall sounds strikingly similar, and one wonders if it will end up similarly credible...
Toyota has a great reputation, and deservedly so. Their product lines - including the luxury brand Lexus - are well engineered, well made and notably reliable. This has led to industry-leading resale values and tremendous customer loyalty. Toyota has also done well in several forms of auto racing, which is arguably the most severe test of an auto company. As a constructor they finished fifth (just behind Ferrari!) in the Formula One World Championship last year!
This current debacle points out one more reason (as if we needed another!) that the US Government has NO business bailing out private companies - they are now in the position of regulating their own biggest competitor in the auto industry. Talk about a conflict of interest!!! I'm wondering what really motivates the timing and aggressiveness of these recalls and am particularly curious about that little "slip of the tongue" saying people should park their Toyotas until they are repaired.
Toyota recently surpassed GM as the world's highest volume automaker and was doing pretty well despite the economic meltdown. The Camry, Corolla, Prius and Rav4 were solidly entrenched in the top 15 best selling vehicles in America. Since the recall Toyota stock is down nearly 20%. (This would be a great buy if the market itself was at all healthy.) Toyota car and truck sales have likewise fallen off the bottom of the charts.
The timing is curious. All considered, it's difficult to envision any move that would be more beneficial to GM and Chrysler at this moment in history. Just another happy coincidence, I'm sure...

Guess I should have been a doctor...
...because I knew Ted Kennedy was malignant 30 years ago.
I know we're not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but hey - we're talking about Ted Kennedy here. What else is there to do?
As the bell tolls for the legendary Marxist party animal (and inventor of the waitress sandwich) I reflect on the fact that for nine-tenths of my life that fat bastard worked diligently to destroy liberty in America. If that weren't enough, I also understand full well that if I'd led the same personal life he lived, I'd be a convicted felon and a registered sex offender. Other than as a prison inmate, I sure wouldn't have been able to inflict myself on the entire nation at public expense. Power sure has it's prerogatives.
Suppose the Kopechne family showed up to pay their respects, or is public urination illegal in Massachusetts???

Who, indeed?
"Who could impose such socialistic confiscatory rates?" -- Senator William E. Borah, Idaho, shilling for the income tax and deriding the possibility that income tax rates could someday reach as much as 20%. Here's the rest of the quote: "and how could Congress, the Representatives of the American People, be so lacking in fairness, justice and patriotism?"
How, indeed. Borah, a "progressive" Republican, was all too comfortable with socialism and knew well what the outcome would be. Later in his Senate career, as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, he gained notoriety for his pro-Soviet stance and his many informal dealings with the communist government that America didn't yet recognize.
More evidence that for a very long time the left wing and the right wing belong to the same bird - a carnivorous totalitarian bird that craps all over the people!

Scam of the Century???
CNBC is calling the Madoff Ponzi scheme the "scam of the century" and will air a special by that name tonight.
While Madoff certainly "made off" with some money, his little sting pales in comparison to government fraud. Social Security/Medicare in just as much a Ponzi scheme and compounds the harm of fraud with it's forcible extraction of money from all of us. SS/Medicare takes more from us EACH MONTH than Madoff stole in 15 years. (At least Bernie didn't hold a gun to anyone's head!)
In turn, Social Security/Medicare pales when compared to the Federal Reserve. By design, the Fed has robbed us of over 95% of the dollar's purchasing power since it's inception in 1913.
In the realm of private schemes Madoff certainly impresses, but he's at best a distraction from the real crimes taking place in America.

And Speaking of Congress
The new budget proposal funds their wish to boost spending on themselves by 11%. They need a visitor center. They need 'infrastructure". They need $19 million to renovate seven committee rooms.
This means spending an additional $400 million - a $4.4 Billion total budget for themselves, which does not include the Congressional salaries of $174,000/yr./critter that are paid out of a separate account.

Two Down - Thousands to Go...
Hillary's in Japan. Now Nanny Pelosi has fled to Italy. This is progress! Next, I propose we send Obama to Zimbabwe, Biden to Cuba and Benny & The Banksters to Hell.
Apparently in need ofcelebration rest after the heavy lifting of the $800 billion power grab, Pelosi and seven fellow travelers jetted off to that pivotal world power. Press releases tell us Pelosi's on a "working vacation" during which she will meet with the Pope and other dignitaries. One hopes the pope will give her a little indigestion over her stance on abortion, but we'll have to wait and see.
Much fuss is being made over the cost of the trip abroad, but considering what it costs us when she's here at home, I'm all for extending the stay. Perhaps she could check back in around 2080 if she's not too busy...

That Which Works Locally...
...falls flat on it's face when dealing with the Beltway Bandits. I just called the Washington offices of my two Senators and was treated to a stilted and insulting "conversation" both times. No surprise, as they're both socialists - oops, um - Democrats.
I expressed my overall horror at the so-called stimulus bill and my specific objection to the $20 billion federal seizure of medical records. I asked both how it was that a right to privacy so absolute that it allowed mothers to kill unborn children could possibly allow the government to take control of and snoop through my medical records without my consent.
I must have accidentally slipped into Farsi or somesuch, as this question was quite incomprehensible to both operatives.
Both were well trained in the art of discussion prevention, as manifested by outright unresponsiveness. They clearly already knew best and thus didn't need my input. (Why stoop to actual conversation with those whose lives you manage? What an unconscionable burden that must be...)
What was most revealing came toward the end of each "conversation" when I tried to elicit what percentage of calls were against the bill. The sympathy ploy I outlined below didn't work at all. They responded VERBATIM that the calls were running roughly equal for and against. (Sure. That 50% support for pork is how congress has an approval rating that makes GW look like Mother Teresa! What a crock) The responses were incomprehensibly vague, and they were worded identically. It was as if the first guy I talked to had rushed over to another office to answer the question again the second time I called.
VERBATIM!!! So the fix is in. These clowns obviously have a script for the tough questions, and they are trained to follow it. Obedient soldiers, in other words, and they're lying to us about what we say want - all as cover for predetermined votes yet to be cast. This adds a whole new dimension to slanted polling, doesn't it?
The first guy did at least ask for my zip code and apparently recorded me as "against" or "crackpot" or something. The second guy just hung up.
Those who ostensibly represent us at the federal level have a fixed agenda. If we agree with them, we're at least useful idiots. If we disagree we don't get the time of day. Grim as this is, we should note and consciously relish these times, as I foresee the day when those who disagree will suffer a fate much worse than indifference.
So the Federal Government is now inaccessible by way of reasoned moral argument. Those whose artful ounce of discussion prevention keeps constituents from reasoning with their leaders are in actuality escalating matters. One wonders if they've pondered the obvious pound of cure, or if they think their power is absolute?
It is, as I am wont to say, later than we think.

Death and Taxes - A New Paradigm
While Obama nominees still face the certainty of death (and odds of a rather prompt one, at least in the political sense) their tax burdens are proving to be a tad ambiguous...
Fancy that!
